What is Sculptra?

Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved dermal filler that helps restore lost collagen. It is commonly used to restore facial volume that was previously lost due to the natural aging process or illness.

It is designed to treat deep facial lines and folds, giving patients a rejuvenation facial appearance.

How Does Sculptra Work?

Sculptra Aesthetic is a dermal filler that is based on poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic compound that encourages the production of collagen. Collagen is a key protein found in the skin, that helps it appear more taut and youthful. As we age our production of collagen slows, leading to hollow or sagging skin. By age 45 you face up to a 25% loss of collagen. Sculptra stimulates collagen production and fills in areas of lost volume, leaving you with natural-looking results.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for Sculptra include those looking to restore volume to their face or treat facial lines and wrinkles. Sculptra is also FDA-approved to treat lipoatrophy (loss of facial fat) in patients with HIV.

Patients should also have reasonable expectations of the treatment and be aware that it will take multiple sessions to achieve the desire results.

They should also be in good overall health. During your consultation with Dr. Arroyo, he will determine if you are a good candidate for Sculptra.

Your Consultation

The first step in your procedure begins with a consultation with Dr. Arroyo. During the consultation, he will discuss the treatment with you and answer any of your questions. He will also determine if you are an ideal candidate for Sculptra, and give you a cost estimate. Because Sculptra works to stimulate collagen, it will take multiple treatment sessions spread out over 4-6 weeks before results are obvious. Dr. Arroyo designs a treatment plan and determines how many sessions will be necessary to achieve your results.

Treatment Process

The Sculptra treatment begins with a topical numbing agent to help keep you comfortable during the process. Sculptra is also formulated with lidocaine which helps ease the minimal pain. Following your treatment, you will be able to resume your normal activities. There may be some pain, swelling, and bruising around the injection site. You may be asked to massage the areas where Sculptra was injected in the first few days following your treatment. This soft tissue filler will last up to two years once the first session has been administered.
