About Neck Lift Surgery

Wrinkling and creasing in the neck area can negatively impact one’s overall facial appearance, leaving some feeling self-conscious of their looks. Loose skin on the neck may be caused by factors such as aging or weight loss. A neck lift procedure sometimes referred to as cervicoplasty (removal of excess skin) or platysmaplasty (tightening of loose neck muscles), is a cosmetic surgical treatment that removes excess fat and loose skin in the neck region.

Dr. Arroyo’s Specialized Sedation Method

During a neck lift procedure, Dr. Christian Arroyo uses a specialized sedation method known as Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) Sedation. This sedation doesn’t require intubation during the surgery and has none of the unpleasant side effects that are commonly found with general anesthesia. TIVA is often thought to be safer for the patient and allows them to breathe independently during the procedure. This sedation method starts with an oral pain medication that many neck lift patients find to be more comfortable than the traditional intravenous option. After this, the patient is administered a pain-free IV to begin at-ease sedation and is closely monitored by Dr. Arroyo and his surgical team. Safety is Dr. Arroyo’s number one priority. Once the surgery is completed, the patient will wake up pain-free and without other side effects, ready to recover at home.

Neck Lift Procedure

A neck lift is an outpatient procedure performed at Dr. Arroyo’s in-office operating room under intravenous sedation. Once the patient has been sedated, the surgeon will create a small incision behind each year. A third incision under the chin may be necessary, depending on the needs of the patient. The next step is to remove excess skin and tighten underlying tissues to achieve a smoother, firmer, and well-defined neck contour. Once the surgery is complete, Dr. Arroyo will close the incisions and place bandages on the treatment area.

Recovery After Your Neck Lift

After a neck lift surgery, the timeline for recovery often varies based on the patient and the procedure’s extent. After your procedure, there will be some bruising, pain, and swelling that will last around a week. You will be provided with the appropriate medications to keep you comfortable during that time. Neck lift patients can often resume many of their regular activities within 10-14 days but should wait an additional few weeks before continuing more strenuous activities. Dr. Arroyo will offer comprehensive post-op instructions and will be available to answer any post-op questions or concerns.

How long will results last?

Following a neck lift surgery, individual results may vary from one patient to another, depending on the skin elasticity and care taken during the healing process. The outcome of this procedure can last for 10-15 years on average. Make sure to talk to Dr. Arroyo about how you can gain the most out of your neck rejuvenation treatment.

Will I have scars?

During neck lift surgery, Dr. Arroyo will create two incisions behind the ears and an optional one under the chin. The surgeon keeps incisions at a minimum length and makes sure to conceal them within natural skin folds. Dr. Arroyo will also educate you on how to take care of your scars to make sure that they fade over time and are no longer noticeable.

Neck lift vs facelift?

Many patients wonder what the difference between a neck lift and a facelift is. Both of these procedures focus on rejuvenating the lower face and neck. A neck lift aims to eliminate excess skin and fat from under the jaw while tightening the neck muscles. On the other hand, a facelift addresses all the areas that a neck lift covers while also reducing excess skin around the chin and mouth. During your consultation visit with Dr. Arroyo, the surgeon will help you select the best procedure (or combination of techniques) to suit your needs.

Can I combine a neck lift with other procedures?

It is possible to combine a neck lift with other cosmetic procedures to achieve more benefits in one session. Talk to Dr. Arroyo about integrating your platysmaplasty with other cosmetic surgeries such as chin augmentation, rhinoplasty, or many others.

How much is a neck lift?

The cost of a neck lift with Dr. Arroyo can vary based on the individual patient’s needs and range between $2,500 and $12,000. Health insurance does not usually cover this procedure as it is an elective and not medically necessary. At your consultation with Dr. Arroyo, he will provide you with an estimated cost of the procedure.
